FIRST LOOK AT THE STAN ORIGINAL TWO BIRDS AS ACADEMY AWARD® NOMINEE JACKI WEAVER JOINS THE CAST

September 17, 2026 – Stan today released a first look at the upcoming Stan Original Two Birds, announcing that Academy Award® nominated Australian icon Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook, Animal Kingdom, Yellowstone) has joined the cast.

Set and filmed on location in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, Two Birds is a six-part crime mystery thriller in co-production with ITV. The series centres on Constable Izzie Cornwell, who arrives from the UK into a remote Australian mining town hoping for a fresh start, only to have a disastrous misstep pull her into an increasingly tight web of deceit, guilt, and rising danger.

Lead cast Sheridan Smith (I Fought The Law, Mrs Biggs) and Stephen Peacocke (Five Bedrooms, The Newsreader) are joined by Colin Friels (Water Rats, Malcolm) and Jacki Weaver, who will replace Judy Davis in the production due to scheduling conflicts as the formidable Mrs Baxter.

They are joined by an exceptional ensemble including Fiona Button (The Split, Industry), Eva Morgan (The Gathering, This City is Ours), Harry Greenwood (Klara and The Sun, Tenzing), Nic Cassim (Mr Inbetween, The Twelve S1), Victoria Fowler (Dalliance, Stan Original Bump), the 2025 Graham Kennedy Award winner for Most Popular New Talent, Lila McGuire (Goolagong, The Twelve S2), Lila McGuire (Goolagong, The Twelve S2), Kit Jeakings-Bull (Stan Original Invisible Boys), Matthew Pearce (Home and Away), Sarah Roberts (Stan Original Scrublands, Home and Away) and Matt Day (Rake, Strike). ​

Two Birds is executive produced by the BAFTA and Peabody Award winning Patrick Spence (Mr Bates vs The Post Office, A Spy Among Friends, Stan Original The Hack) through Chapter One and produced by Martha Coleman (Stan Original Scrublands: Silver) through Third Act Stories. The series is written by Helen FitzGerald (The Cry) and Megan Palinkas (Heartbreak High), and directed by BAFTA nominated James Griffiths (The Ballad of Wallis Island, Maternal, Episodes) and Corrie Chen (Stan Original Good Cop/Bad Cop). Kirsty McGregor is the Australian Casting Director and Amy Hubbard is the UK Casting Director.

Stan Executive Producers are Andy Ryan and Donna Chang, alongside ITV’s Callum Dziedzic, James Griffiths, Helen FitzGerald and Luke Speed. Two Birds is commissioned on behalf of ITV by Director of Drama Polly Hill and Drama Commissioner Callum Dziedzic.
