Following a series of unforgettable encounters full of jaw-dropping moments between men's world no.1 Carlos Alcaraz (and world no.2 Novak Djokovic in recent months, the two have suddenly found in each other a ruthless rival.

With the two locked neck and neck on the ATP rankings, whoever progresses further in the US Open is likely to find themselves in the no.1 position, and after contests on clay at Roland-Garros and grass at Wimbledon, there is every chance these two could meet once again on the fabled hard courts of Flushing Meadows.

Aussie Alex de Minaur will put his credentials on the line and make a charge, having achieved his career-high ranking of no.12 in the world in recent weeks, forecasting ominous form heading into the grand slam where he reached the quarter-finals just a few short years ago.

The US Open will also see the highly anticipated return of Aussie Ajla Tomljanovic, whose ranking has slid to no.130 after having missed the entire season to-date with a knee injury. Now healed, Tomljanovic will be looking to reclaim her stellar 2022 US Open form, which saw her ending the career of Serena Williams en route to making the quarter-finals.

Top women's stars Iga Świątek and Aryna Sabalenka will also be in action, vying for the no.1 crown, and Aussie Alex de Minaur will make a charge, having achieved his career-high ranking of no.12 in the world in recent weeks, forecasting ominous form heading into the grand slam.
