A brutal, inexplicable massacre of four scientists at a remote Australian desert research station sparks a relentless investigation in 1987. Detective Georgia Cookie (Mia Wasikowska) and her partner, Detective Michael Thorne (Xavier Samuel), are assigned the case and are plunged into an obsessive, decades-long investigation that descends into the paranormal.

37 years later, a string of grotesquely detailed murders has emerged as exact recreations of the 1987 massacre. Georgia (now played by Heather Mitchell), still haunted by the murders, is dragged back into the investigation and forced to confront the reality that the original mystery was never truly solved.
