New Film
Academy Award® winner Nicolas Cage stars in the psychological thriller The Surfer.
When a man returns to Australia to buy back his family home after many years in the U.S., he is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a group of local surfers who claim ownership over the secluded beach of his childhood. Wounded, he defies them and remains at the beach, demanding acceptance. As the conflict escalates, he is brought right to the edge of his sanity and his entire identity is thrown into question.
Written by Thomas Martin and directed by Lorcan Finnegan, The Surfer is an intensely unnerving feature film shot in a single location in Yallingup in Western Australia. Alongside Cage, the film stars an impressive Australian ensemble cast including Julian McMahon, Nic Cassim, Miranda Tapsell, Alexander Bertrand, Justin Rosniak, Rahel Romahn, Finn Little and Charlotte Maggi.

New Documentary
A feature-length documentary about divisive leader, conservative icon and former Queensland Premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen, Joh: Last King of Queensland is a timely examination of progress, power, corruption, and Joh’s complex legacy.
By November 1987, Premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen had led the Sunshine State for 19 tumultuous years. Hugely popular, he presided over enormous growth – but corruption raged under his tenure, as did electoral manipulation and often violent suppression of dissent. He ran Australia’s fastest growing state with an iron fist for almost twenty years until a seminal work of investigative journalism and subsequent Royal Commission unravelled a vast web of corruption. Locking himself in his office, Bjelke-Petersen refused to face his party, the Parliament or the press.
